The Kelpies at The Falkirk Helix
Forth & Clyde Canal, Falkirk District
The Kelpies at the Falkirk Helix, completed in late April 2014.
These beasts are about 100 feet high and are fabricated in steel tube and plate and weigh about 300 tons each.
You can see from the size of the people walking about how impressively large they are.
From a little further back and showing the River Carron to the north and, in the bottom right of both of these photos, the new extension to the Forth & Clyde canal.
The Kelpies mark the eastern end of the canal and are the main feature of the new Helix Park, part of the Forth Valley re-generation project.
They tower over the M9 motorway - Stirling to Edinburgh - and will be seen by thousands of people every day.
