Souter Johnnie's Cottage
Kirkoswald - South Ayrshire

Souter Johnnie's Cottage, Kirkoswald, South Ayrshire

Souter Johnnie (John Davidson) was a pal of Robert Burns and featured
in the Burns poem Tam o'Shanter.

This was his cottage in the main street of Kirkoswald on the A77 in South Ayrshire,
now in the care of the National Trust for Scotland.

This is an accurate and unmodified photo of the cottage and as you can see it's in a pretty dilapidated state and in need of at the very least a decent coat of paint.

The building to the left is in an even worse state.

In case you were wondering, a souter was a shoemaker and the cottage
contains many interesting exhibits.
