The paddle steamer Waverley arriving at Fairlie Quay.
During the period when Largs pier was being re-built this was the temporary departure point for the Waverley, passengers being transferred from Largs station by coach.
On the left is the island of Great Cumbrae, the north horizon is the Cowal Peninsula and Largs and the marina cum yacht haven is on the right.
Just arriving at the pier, a mile or so south of Largs.
Reversing away from the pier.
We understand that she had to go astern to avoid running aground in shallow water.
Not a new experience for the Waverley but perhaps best avoided.
And finally, having turned in a semi-circle, heading off to the north.
