The old fishing boat in dry dock
Ayr, South Ayrshire
This boat was placed here supposedly as a lasting tribute to the many
fishermen from Ayrshire who died at sea.
As you can see the vessel is now unmarked, uncared for and in poor condition.
Even her name and number have either faded or been vandalised.
The Watchful was built in 1955 or so and she was a ring-net herring boat
until decommissioned in around 1995.
Number BA124 she was registered at Ballantrae and sailed from Maidens.
As this overhead view shows the boat is in a very poor and neglected condition.
Some would say not at all a fitting tribute.
