Ardrossan Castle - North Ayrshire
The ruins of Ardrossan Castle are on Castle Hill just to the south
of the main town centre.
Seemingly there are stories of ghosts and ethereal events among the ruins with
some people claiming it's haunted by the ghost of William Wallace. It isn't, but it's
good for tourism.
It's also just about the only castle in Scotland that was never slept in by Mary, Queen of Scots.
These photos were taken in warm late-afternoon spring light, hence
the colour tints.
Just to the north of the castle is this ruined graveyard and chapel.
There also seems to have been an outer wall as shown by the rise in the ground circling
It's said to be the burial site of Fergus of Ardrossan, the only lord from Ayrshire
to sign the Declaration of Arbroath in 1320.
