Sovereign House - Irvine, North Ayrshire
This office block used to be, some years ago, Irvine Academy and the street along its left
hand side is still named Academy Street.
The American gothic novelist and short story writer Edgar Allan Poe lived in
Irvine when he was a boy (1815 or so) and was sent to the old burgh school at
Kirkgatehead. His family lived in the Bridgegate, now demolished and replaced
by the pedestrian area south of the cross in the middle of this photo.
Showing the town of Irvine in the background on a bright day in June.
