Cellardyke Outdoor Pool
by Anstruther, Fife
On the eastern edge of Anstruther, these were taken on a bright sunny morning in July 2024.
This is also known, to those of us who remember, as the Cardinal Steps Bathing Pool.
Taken close to high tide you can just see the outer wall of the pool hiding under the water but
it's much more visible when the tide drops.
The pool is tidal and is cleaned twice a day by the natural action of the sea.
The rocks offshore protect the pool from any high waves or swell.
There's plenty of free parking and a handy coffee and snacks stall (bottom right, silver roof).
As well as safe swimming (and paddling for the children) it's also used for canoes and paddle-boards.
The pool is being restored by a hardy and enthusiastic company of locals and entrance is free.
