Now in the hands of the National Trust for Scotland the Palace and village are popular stops on the Fife tourist route.

The Palace or “Great Lodging” is painted in yellow ochre, which was the height of fashion when it was built between 1597 and 1611 by Sir George Bruce, the Laird of Carnock.

The plastic pigs? Some sort of charity fund-raising effort. Vegans and vegetarians are hopefully allowed discretion when it comes to contributing.

Faces have been blurred to avoid any privacy complaints.
